A Clinical Evaluation of Ectopic Pregnancy

Abstract
A survey was done of 190 patients with ectopic pregnancy admitted to Il Sin Christian hospital between Jan. 1986 and Dec. 1987 , particularly in order to assess the possible predisposing factors and the reliability of various diagnostic methods.
@ES The main results were as follows.
@EN 1. The incidence was 1: 60 deliveries.
2. The greatest proportion, 63.7%, were between the ages of 25~34 but compared to the age distribution of women delivered at the hospital during the same period, there was a much greater proportion of women aged over 35, 20% compared to 1.6%.
3. 12.1% were primigravida but 35.8% were nullipara.
4. In the past history, of possible predisposing factors, 74.7% had at least one abortion. 60.5% induced abortion, 12.6% PID, 11.6% previous sterilization and 11.6% had history of infertility.
5. The interval between LMP and onset of symptoms was 4~8 wks in 73.1%, the main clinical symptoms being lower abdominal pain in 90% and vaginal spotting in 84.7%.
6. Of 133 patients tested urine HCG test was positive in 63.9% and only in one of 32 cases did the serum ¥â-HCG exceed 4000miu/ml.
7. Adnexal mass was diagnosed by ultrasound in 78.1%.
8. The site of ectopic implantation was fallopian tube in 93.7%, ovary 1.6%, cervix 1.6% and abdominal cavity 1.0%.
9. Of total cases 80.6% were treated by salpingectomy, 8.4% by salpingo-oophorectomy, and 5.3% by cornual resection.
